African Dream

Uganda had been on our bucket list for many years. We normally travel independently and prefer to plan our route spontaneously, from place to place. At the Fespo in Zurich, however, we came across the local travel agency Kikooko, who quickly convinced us to take the plunge into a guided private trip. Aminah and Thomas put together a varied and exciting programme in no time – perfectly matched to our wishes, ideas and budget. My concerns about the Ebola outbreak were also taken very seriously, so we were able to travel with a good feeling. After three and a half fantastic weeks that flew by, we returned home with countless unforgettable impressions. Our private guide Ivan met us at the airport and took us on a unique journey through his Uganda. Thanks to him, we didn't just experience a safari – we got to know Uganda in all its facets. He told us an incredible amount about the country, its people, culture, history, politics and everyday life, and showed us places that we, as independent travellers, would never have discovered, let alone understood. We felt very safe and comfortable at all times. What impressed us most, though, was that Ivan often sensed our wishes before we had even voiced them. The encounter with the gorillas was so overwhelming, emotional and moving that we wanted to experience this once-in-a-lifetime moment again. Ivan and Aminah made even this spontaneous wish possible. Over the course of the trip, a guide became a friend. We met as strangers at the airport and said goodbye as friends three and a half weeks later, after discovering, marvelling, laughing and debating so much together. Our warmest thanks go to the whole Kikooko team – and especially to Aminah, Warren, Thomas and Ivan. You made this trip something truly extraordinary. From the valuable ideas and the planning tailored perfectly to us to the loving organisation of every single detail, everything was simply outstanding. We also particularly appreciated the personal encounters with Aminah and Warren and the enriching conversations over lunch and dinner. What impressed us most, however, was the passion, the dedication and the exceptional commitment with which this trip was designed – both behind the scenes and throughout our entire journey. Many of these small and large details probably remained invisible to us as guests, but they made exactly the difference and turned a beautiful trip into an unforgettable experience. We can only recommend Kikooko most warmly, and we are already dreaming of our next trip with them and Ivan.

An extraordinary journey with a really great travel agency in fantastic Uganda

In May 2026 we travelled for 23 days through incredibly beautiful and friendly Uganda. Before the trip, Aminah and Peace from Kikooko looked after us excellently in every respect and advised us proactively. On arrival in Entebbe we were met by our guide Ivan, and from then until our departure he took care of us superbly in every detail. Ivan's work went far beyond what we could have expected, and we could feel his pride in his home country, Uganda. Ivan showed us a Uganda that you don't get to see on ordinary tours, and every single day he managed to surprise us pleasantly again. The contact with the local people impressed us greatly. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and kind. The route, the accommodation, the food – everything was simply a revelation. Walking with the rhinos, the chimpanzees, the gorillas and the golden monkeys was a unique experience of a lifetime. The local guides did their part to make these moments possible for us. Kikooko organised a really wonderful trip for us and did everything to make it a complete success for us. Once again, heartfelt thanks to Ivan, Aminah, Peace, Warren and Alex for making all of this possible for us. We will come back to Uganda, and of course we will travel through Uganda with Kikooko.

More than just a trip

We (a couple from Austria) came across Kikooko while searching for a travel agency that offered truly personalized trip planning in Uganda—and it couldn't have been a better choice! Communication was flawless from the very beginning, and any remaining questions were cleared up during a phone call with the owner, Warren. Upon arriving in Entebbe, we were welcomed at the office with a short check-in and then greeted by the entire team, who took the time to introduce themselves, and afterward we enjoyed a wonderful dinner together. It felt less like meeting with a company and more like spending an evening with friends—great conversations about politics, delicious food, and a glass of wine. The perfect start to our journey! The next day, we set off early with our guide, Schindishi, who told us all about Uganda's history, culture, and way of life. He seemed to know an interesting detail about every animal we encountered. Although the itinerary was carefully tailored to us (Gorilla-trekking, Chimpanzee-trekking, Lake Mburo...), he made small adjustments along the way when he noticed our interest in experiencing the "real" Africa—adding visits to local bars and restaurants. The lodges were very special and extraordinarily beautiful. This was our first guided trip (we are usually independent travelers), and we were truly impressed. When it was time to leave, several team members even came to the airport to say goodbye. I genuinely felt like being part of a family. We heard the phrase "Everything is possible in Uganda" many times—and with Kikooko, we truly believe that's the case. We can highly recommend Kikooko!

Amazing, unforgetable 15 days trip Uganda-Zanzibar

I met Warren during the holiday fair Ferienmesse in Bern in 2019. We discussed for long minutes about his country and he explained to me how beautiful Uganda is and what is the vision of this small but very friendly tour operator Kikooko.I was really interested, as my dream was always to see Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees in their environment. From the beginning I was 100% confident about Kikooko. And the COVID came. In 2024 I came again to the holiday fair in Bern, made the lotto and won a prize : Flight Entebbe - Zanzibar and 3 nights in a beach hotel in Zanzibar. That was a good reason to make a deal with my wife, safari with gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, and at the end beach holidays in Zanzibar.Warren and Aminah prepared for us a first version of a trip to Uganda and Zanzibar.Unfortunately, I got an extremely severe pulmonary infection in autumn 2024 and it was not possible for me to make this programm. I came again in 2025 to the holiday fair in Bern and told Warren, now I'm ready to make the trip.Aminah and Warren prepared a top combi programme, perfectly balanced, 10 days Uganda and 5 days Zanzibar. In May we finalize the program for September 2025. My dream will be hopefully realized As we arrived in Entebbe our guide J.J. waited for us at the airport and took us to the first accomodation, the Gorilla Neighbour Guest House in Entebbe. We were extremely friendly and welcomed from Maureen and Agnes, 2 sisters of Warren. We remarked live that Kikooko is a family and small organisation, where guests are not only clients but friends, who want to discover this country..The next morning, Warren came personally and gave us a short briefing about our long relationship and about the next days. Now, our adventure can start. With J.J.(gerald) we had a very experienced guide, very cool and extremely friendly. He taught us many things about culture, landscape, animals and he drived very carefully and safely during these approx. 2500km.The guides from UWA, who came with us in the different national parks were also very interesting and professional. Also all accommodations were perfectly chosen, all were in amazing locations and the people were always extremely friendly.. Also the meals were perfect, maybe not so local but we never had problems with the food. The highlights were both trekkings. For me, the chimpanzee trekking was OK, but the gorilla trekking was very hard, but I did it successfully. It was a fantastic experience, very emotional for me, and to see all these animals near us living in their environment was amazing. My dream was realized. In the end , it was really hard to say goodbye to Warren, Aminah, J.J. Maureen and Agnes. We spent 10 fabulous and unforgettable days in Uganda, and met never so friendly people in another country.. We only can highly recommend Kikooko for a perfectly organised and friendly trip in Uganda. Everything, every wish we had were done, all promises were fulfilled. Alex and Christiane T. Inspiring Uganda - 21 d Safari with Chris and the Landcruiser exploring wildlife and country

Highlights for the two of us were gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and in the Mgahinga NP, chimpanzee trekking in the Kibale Forest NP, and the game drives in Queen Elizabeth NP and Lake Mburo NP (also hiking). Chris, as a professional ranger, spotted and identified (without binoculars) all the birds while driving slowly through the parks, finding lions and all sorts of wild animals. Chris spoke excellent English, was always calm, helpful and very friendly. We felt very safe driving with him. Warren proposed the tour and adapted it to our wishes, focusing on birding, wildlife, hiking and experiencing Uganda and its people. It turned out to be an excellent schedule and superb adventure. We enjoyed the beauty of local craftwork, wooden decorations and paintings from Arcadia Lodge. The final birding trip to the Mabamba Swamp—with a big variety of different waterbirds—was the trip highlight. The Shoebill showed himself in the morning. Before our return to Switzerland, Warren surprised us with a farewell sundowner trip on the original African Queen on Lake Victoria.

Unique experience with ingenious tour operator Kikooko

We joined Project Uganda at the request of a friend and were simply surprised from the start. The first impressions were tremendous; what we experienced in the first 3 days already exceeded our expectations for the entire trip. On the one hand, the country has so much to offer, but what Kikooko showed us through our brilliant guide Alex is how people live, what moves them—by coming into contact with the people there again and again. Special was certainly the visit to the village where our guide grew up, where we were spoiled with dancing, food and joy. We really appreciated that Alex was able to assess us correctly as a group, in order to throw in some surprises and sometimes slightly deviate from the program. A surprise trip was just more awesome and we always appreciated the options offered. So we are full of praise for Alex and also Kikooko as a whole. We also appreciated very much that when we came back to Entebbe at midnight for our flight, we were allowed to use the rooms and showers in the guest house. An all-in-all impressive experience that Kikooko made possible for us.
