Dry Seasons in Uganda – December to February, June to August

During these months, the weather is generally warm and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 29°C (77°F to 84°F) during the day. The average rainfall per month ranges from 46mm (1.8”) to 86mm  (3.4”). It is an ideal time to visit for wildlife safaris and gorilla trekking, as the drier conditions make it easier to navigate through the national parks.

Wet Seasons in Uganda – March to May, September to November

This period experiences relatively higher precipitation, with rainfalls ranging from 86mm (3.6”) from September to November to averages of around 147mm (5.8”) from March to May. The rainforest landscapes become lush and vibrant during this time, but it’s important to note that travel conditions can be more challenging due to occasional heavy rains and muddy trails. However, the rainy season also offers unique opportunities for birdwatching and witnessing the spectacular waterfalls at their fullest.

Best Times To Spot Wildlife in Uganda

In Uganda, game viewing in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale National Park, and Murchison Falls National Park is excellent December through February and June through October. In November and March it is good, and it is fair in April and May.

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Welcome to Uganda! Your driver-guide will meet you at Entebbe International Airport and transfer you to your nearby accommodation.

Mabamba Swamp and Environmental Conservation

Start your morning tracking the rare shoebill stork in Mabamba swamp, one of the best places to spot this prehistoric-looking bird. After lunch, join Kikooko staff for a meaningful beach clean-up initiative near their offices, removing plastics and polythene bags to protect local ecosystems and raise awareness about environmental conservation.

Kibale Forest National Park - Forest Restoration

Journey to Kibale Forest National Park, stopping for lunch in Fort Portal. Upon arrival, participate in the vital Kibale Forest Restoration project, which aims to rehabilitate over 10,000 hectares of degraded parkland. Get hands-on experience planting trees and removing invasive elephant grass that hinders natural forest regeneration, directly contributing to the park’s ecological recovery.

Chimpanzee Tracking and Community Conservation

Begin your day tracking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, home to one of Africa’s largest wild chimpanzee populations. Learn from experienced rangers about these fascinating primates, their behavior, and ongoing conservation efforts. In the afternoon, explore Bigodi Swamp, a community-managed wetland sanctuary. Your guided walk supports local conservation initiatives while offering opportunities to spot diverse bird species and primates.

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Journey through Uganda’s scenic landscapes to reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Settle into your accommodation in Ruhija, surrounded by the ancient forest’s serenity.

Batwa Cultural Heritage Preservation

Engage in a meaningful cultural exchange with the Batwa community, joined by local youth from neighboring villages. Learn from Batwa elders about their traditional forest-dwelling lifestyle and cultural practices. This intergenerational exchange helps preserve vital indigenous knowledge, with the option to document these teachings for wider cultural preservation.

Bwindi Forest Experience & Social Enterprise

Explore this UNESCO World Heritage site on a morning nature walk, accompanied by Batwa elders who share their deep connection to the forest that survived the last ice age. In the afternoon, visit Kikooko’s innovative porter restaurant project, designed to provide sustainable additional income for local porters. Share your expertise in customer service and tourism while learning about their vision for economic development.

Return to Entebbe
