My travel company met Warren at 'de vakantiebeurs' earlier this year. They were completely blowing away bij Warrens' enthousiasm and said that they will book the trip to Uganda with Kikooko. That evening my friend texted me if i want to join their family to Uganda. I haven't had to think about it for a second. Of course!
So we booked the 16 days trip to Rwanda and Uganda with for us in advance the following highlights: the Gorilla's, the Chimpansees and the Golden Monkeys.
Alex picked us up at the airport with our beautiful vihicle for the next two weeks. Alex was our guide through our trip and he was fantastic; his accessible personality, his excellent driving skills, his great surprises and his great knowledge about Uganda makes him the best driver you can get. He has shown us the pure and raw Uganda as he experiences it and has brought us to places where the locals have never seen tourists before. We have been to a local church, to his birth community and had some drinks at the local bar. Alex gave us different options every day and was very flexible if we wanted to see or do something special.
We got to see all the primates we came for; the gorilla, the golden monkey, the chimpansee, saw tree climbing lions in Ishasha and had the privilege of seeing as many as 6 animal couples making love.
We also saw many other animals such as elephants, giraffes, birds, hippos, pumba's, a lot of monkeys and rhinos in the rhino sanctuary.
What a great countries and what a excellent organization is kikooko. Rwanda was great but Uganda should be on everyone's bucket list.
Thank you Alex, thank you Warren and thank you to the rest of the team. I will spread the word and hope many people will see what your beautiful country has to offer and how great you guys are.

Kikooko is going the extra mile in planning the most perfect itinerary for you by listening carefully, adjusting it to your personal preferences and working out the best options to provide the most value. From the time one is picked up at the airport to being dropped off again, everyone from management to guide is looking after you and making sure you have the time of your life, going the extra mile with every interaction they have with you. A very brief summary of our experience:
- Planning and booking: I have rarely experienced such detailed and personal preparation. Also, you will get the best value, Kikooko can alter to your budget and still offer high-end experience.
- Staying at the Topaz Guest House in Entebbe: Run by Lydia who does not only do the best juices ever, but also gives you the best first insight of true Ugandan hospitality. Make sure you haven't eaten for a week before Lydia spoils you with her food!
- Tours/Guide: Our guide was Ivan who has years of experience and could answer any question, he is like the walking lexicon of Uganda! On top of being most knowledgeable and professional, he makes one feel like a VIP and friend at the same time. Plus, and this is major: When we didn't get to see the chimps in the trekking, all the other operators packed their tourists back in their car and told them they can go back tomorrow but would have to pay the license fee again. Whereabouts our Kikooko guide spoke to the Rangers and had us joining an afternoon trip to enable us to get to see the chimps! Ivan is also a very skillful driver, he handles the 4W car like an easy toy, we always felt super safe and comfortable. Plus, even though the itinerary will make you looking forward to the trip for weeks, you will find out that even in between there is small surprises every day.
Accommodation: Kikooko booked us into great places and often a much higher standard than we would have expected.
Food: Kikooko makes sure that any dietary requirements can be met (which is not easy everywhere in Uganda). We are on a vegan diet and never had a problem, thanks to Rena and Ivan who both kept on checking and explaining it to the hotels and restaurants. So if you are a vegan and want a trouble-free experience, book with Kikooko.
Activities: Ours were mostly animal and nature based and all the encounters and sightings we had exceeded our expectations so far. We have been on safaris before in other African countries, but what Kikooko puts together is the best you will find.
So, we can't wait to explore the rest of Uganda with Kikooko another time - two weeks was way too short and we are still reminiscing about our adventures! Thank you Warren, Rena and Ivan, you understand how to make dreams come through!

Rena from Switzerland, her managing partner Warren from Uganda and our local guide Alex turned out to be the dream team who exceeded our expectations. Needless to mention that our 12-day tour for the 3 of us was very well organized with many unforgettable highlights such as gorilla habitation, chimpanzee and golden monkey tracking and a community visit where we were welcome like friends and very touched by the spontaneous hospitality. It seemed like almost the whole village came to see these visitors from Switzerland and they sang and danced for us and with us.
We had our planned itinerary, but our wonderful and knowledgeable guide Alex managed to surprise us almost daily with „extras“. He knew so many people on our way and we stopped to greet them and learn about their lives and struggles and sometimes also share our stories.
I think it was this combination of being emerged into Ugandan culture, learning so much about the extraordinary wildlife, driving through fast changing beautiful scenery (in an extremely comfortable vehicle) and trying yummy local food which made this trip a unique and unforgettable experience.
Thank you again to the Kikooko team who truly made us feel like friends and family.

That is the way they work:... read more make a tour based on the input you provide. They are flexible and passioned to make your trip unforgettable. Even during the trip there are possibilities to make some changes.
We made a great tour through the South-western part of this beautiful country. Our experienced tour guide told about the animals, the birds, the country, the landscape and the history of Uganda. We made a tour of 8 days and visited Kibale forest to see the chimpanzees, Queen Elizabeth national park to see a lot of wild life during game drives and a boat safari. In Ishasha we spotted the tree climbing lions; amazing! After the beautiful mountains in the deep south-west, the deepest lake of Uganda; Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National park back to Entebbe. We have seen a lot of wild life, beautiful birds and met a lot of friendly and interesting people during this trip. We have had several interesting discussions.
The whole trip through the Pearl of Africa was very well organized, with an excellent driver who drove careful and safe. Thanks to the Kikooko company, they make our trip unforgettable.
If we will come back to Uganda, we will book the trip again at Kikooko and will spent some time in their local guest house with good facilities, excellent food and interesting people for a good conversation.

Incredible unique and personalized tour through Uganda made possible by Kikooko! - For me it was my first time in Uganda, even in the whole continent of Africa. And what an adventure it was. But the first thing that comes to mind... read more when I look back on my amazing trip in Uganda with the tour company Kikooko, is our great guide Alex. His kind, welcoming and caring personality for sure gave me and the group of friends I travelled with a peace of mind so we could enjoy this beautiful country to the fullest. Also, through our always interesting and sometimes very deep conversations I felt more in touch with the country and its people than with any other country I have ever travelled to before.
And even though this was my first time in Africa, I think I can safely say that Uganda truly has it all, we saw gorgeous waterfalls, lakes, hills, mountains and the source of the Nile. Also, many, many elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, birds and other wildlife like rhinos and chimpanzees! And of course, the tree climbing lions and even a leopard! We were very lucky!
As we not only went to safari parks but met the Ugandan people as well, I feel like we saw the whole of Uganda. Riding through this country and meeting people in the cities and on the land, seeing plays and dances was very special. We even danced with them on some occasions, whether that be in a club in Kampala or in a very remote village in the mountains!
If anything, I think this relatively small company has some amazing advantages you will for sure enjoy. Not only is your trip highly adaptive to your needs as it can be flexible in the schedule or planning if you want it to be, the guides are truly there for you, and in my case has become a lifelong friend. For a personalized and unique trip in Uganda I highly recommend Kikooko!

Unique wildlife and cultural experience in beautiful Uganda with Kikooko Africa Safaris - We first met Rena from Kikooko at the annual Zurich travel fair where we wanted to learn more about primate tracking and our interest was immediately sparked by the fact... Read More that Kikooko is a small tour operator specializing in very personalized and taylor-made tours.
Safari trip through South-West Uganda by Kikooko - Together with Kikooko we planned for a trip trough Uganda. We indicated what we wanted to see, and they came with a great proposal.

As a 22-year-old guy from The Netherlands, I can only say I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to come visit this beautiful country with Kikooko. Thanks Kikooko, this was amazing.
